Describe yourself in 80 words or less.
Hello! My name is Abi Archbold and I live in the coastal suburb of Encounter Bay in South Australia. I am fortunate enough to have an incredible family who I love with all of my heart, and whilst I am not the loudest of people I really enjoy meeting others and hope to travel as much as possible throughout life. I consider myself to be very determined, and always seek to try my best at whatever comes my way.
How old are you, what grade are you in, and what community/town do you live in?
I have just turned 16 and am in Year 10. I live in Encounter Bay, South Australia.
Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?
I entered the Country to Canberra Leadership Competition because I was in awe of the incredible opportunity this experience is. I have always been interested in learning of the inner workings of the country, and the opportunity to meet inspirational female leaders sounded extremely rewarding.
What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip to Canberra?
An incredible part of this Power Trip will be the opportunity to further fuel my passion in exploring a world of bigger thinking, along with this gaining an insight into the possibilities life can provide. I hope to meet some amazing young women with whom I can connect with and share learning experiences that can have the potential to really impact our futures as we grow; and in the best of ways.
Who is your role model and why?
Without a doubt my role model is my mum. To be able to take a chance and strive for something extraordinary there is this beautiful internal confidence we all harness to push ourselves no matter what we are doing. I always feel as though I owe that confidence to my mum who has always encouraged me and motivated me to seek my adventures. I will always be in admiration of her strength.
What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
My favourite thing about living in rural Australia has always been the landscapes. Where I live we are surrounded by beautiful blue seas and green hills. I have always enjoyed the long drives passing nearby wineries and vineyards. Living in a rural area I am also fortunate enough to receive opportunities such as this.
What are you passionate about?
I have always been passionate about the analysis of in depth texts and literature. Whether it be a narrative or iconic movie…I have always been drawn to the classics, and the unique perspectives and personal interpretation they provide concerning the world we all live.
What is your favourite quote?
A quote I have found that really resonates with me is “Kill em’ with kindness” We already live in a world with so much conflict, and whilst there will always be the presence of negative people in our lives, battling this with kindness not only eliminates the unpleasant but is extremely fulfilling. Don’t change for anybody.
What’s your main goal/ambition right now?
At the moment my biggest goal in life is to finish high school to the best of my ability. I really want to put in the effort and graduate feeling proud of what I have accomplished. With the completion of high school too, I hope to do some more exploring as to where I want to go as I get older and what I want to contribute to the world.
Tell us a couple of things you do to relax/have fun?
When it comes to relaxing I always love spending time with those I love. I love being with my family and close friends, and consider myself a bit of a home body; always trying to find a chance to sleep in a little bit longer 🙂 I am always watching a TV series or a movie in my spare time and am also in love with the decade that is the 80’s, the music, the movies…I love that era.
