Describe yourself in 80 words or less.
My name is Hannah Whytcross. I was born in Camperdown a small rural town in South West Vic. I help out my parent’s on their dairy farm cattle and work part-time at supermarket. I recently travelled to Cambodia with my secondary school on an Immersion trip. I am open minded and take pride in all work I undertake. I’m excited about the life I have and where this journey is taking me…
How old are you, what grade are you in and what community/town do you live in?
I am currently 17 years old and studying year 11 at Mercy Regional College Camperdown. I live in a country town called Weerite, just 15 km’s out of Camperdown in South West Victoria.
Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?
I had been nominated by a school teacher. Someone believed in me and thought I had what it takes, so I gave it a go! I never thought I would be successful!
What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip to Canberra?
I’m hoping to meet new people and make new friends, learn new things, get out of my comfort zone and grow from these experiences. I’m excited to meet the people behind C to C who are making a difference to rural girls like me.
Who is your role model and why?
No I don’t have a role model but my grandpa inspires me. He was a great man who helped in the community and CFA as a volunteer for over 50 years. He was a hard worker, who loved his family and took care of them. A great farmer with years of knowledge and experience. He passed away this year. I want to make him proud of me! He encouraged me to be to be myself, take chances and work hard.
What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
Lots of space and no traffic. The support you receive from neighbours too.
What are you passionate about?
I’m very passionate about all things agriculture. My choice of subjects evolve around it, as does my part-time work and future studies. Agriculture is everything to me and I personally think we need more women to come into the rewarding career. Although agriculture is portrayed as a “more male suited career” this isn’t true. I’ve been born and raised on a farm my whole life. Ive meet so many wonderful people and had amazing opportunities given to me from working in the Ag industry including being selected for the Warnambool Cheese and Butter Scholarship Program in 2017.
What’s your favourite quote?
“Be strong, you never know who you are inspiring”
What’s your main goal/ambition right now?
My goal is to successfully finish year 11 and attend further studies in 2019 at Longerenong Agricultural College in Horsham.
Tell us a couple of things you do to relax/have fun?
I love to listen to music, watch movies and spend quality time with my family and friends. I also play tennis, clay target shooting and enjoy cooking.
