Ava Roche - Winner 2023

Year 10 | 15 Years | The Rockhampton Grammar School | Rockhampton, Queensland

Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?

I entered Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition with the hope to be able to develop my leadership skills and to gain insight and knowledge from powerful and inspirational women.

What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip?

I am looking forward to listening and taking on board what women in power have to offer and to understand how these leaders influence Australian society. I would like to gain invaluable knowledge of politics and be equipped with skills which I can hopefully transfer to everyday life back in my regional home.

Who is your role model and why?

My role model is my own Mum! She sets an inspirational example for me throughout her values, choices and qualities. I aspire to be the woman she is one day.

What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?

I feel lucky living in rural Australia, I love the close knit community that I live in as well as the experiences, challenges and opportunities (like this!) that would not be possible living in a city. My favourite thing is our close proximity to our beautiful coastline without the crowds.

What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?

My current goal is to succeed with my senior studies and finish school with a high ATAR, continuing onto university, always trying to maintain balance with study and all aspects of physical and mental health.

Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?

I really enjoy playing my sports such as netball and running as well as spending time with my loved ones and travelling the world.
