Age:
16

 Grade: 11

 Home Community/Town: Busselton, WA

Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?
I entered the Competition, as I feel there’s a need for young women, to take advantage of incredible platforms like C2C, that give us the opportunity to speak up on current issues, in an environment where people listen and encourage women to have a voice and make a change.

What do you hope to get out of C2C on Screen?
I hope to be inspired to continue my journey towards making a difference in the area of women’s rights, through meeting influential people who are at the forefront of this arena, in Australia.

Who is your role model and why?
One of my role models is feminist author, Laura Bates, as she spoke up on issues within society, which people may not have wanted to address at the time. For this, Laura Bates received threatening and derogatory comments, yet she harnessed them, to push her message of gender equality forwards.

What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
Living in a rural area means I am lucky enough to grow up surrounded by bush, wildlife, and incredible coastlines, teaching me to value our environment, and shaping me to be passionate about current environmental issues.

 What’s your favourite quote?
“When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.” Malala Yousafzai

What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?
I plan to make the most of my last year at school, appreciating the positives in my life and utilizing this time to learn and grow whilst completing my ATAR courses. I would love to harness every opportunity that comes my way, working towards making a difference in the world.

Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?
In summer, I love to spend my time at the beach, as well as camping with family and friends. In the South West of Australia, I’m lucky enough to have access to many stunning hiking trails as well as a beautiful bush landscape, which is always fun to explore. In my spare time, I practise piano, which helps me to wind down and relax.
