Bio: Jessica Bennett, NSW Winner 2019

Jessica is one of our 2019 Leadership Competition winners. You can check out her winning entry here and her bio below.

Jess BennettWhy did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?
I entered this leadership competition because I loved the idea of bringing young rural women together to discover what they are truly capable of. It’s such a great opportunity with so much to offer, so I thought I’ve got to give it this a shot.

What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip to Canberra?
I’m nearing the end of my schooling now, which means being constantly reminded about preparing for the next chapter of my life. I hope the Power Trip to Canberra encourages me to see what pathways are out there and how I can tackle the obstacles that come my way.

Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my mum. I have always aspired to replicate her and the way she is able to understand people. She makes me feel like I am the strongest woman in the world, even though that’s the role she takes in my eyes.

What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
My favourite thing about living in rural Australia is the peace and quiet, there’s nothing else like driving back from a holiday in the city and finally reaching the constant potholes on the country roads letting you know that you’re almost home.

What’s your favourite quote?
“No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.”- From Dead Poets Society.

What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?
My ambitions for the future are constantly changing. My main goal in life is to be happy, experiencing new things and making memories with the people I love. However, I have always had a drive to lead. Becoming a leader of something that means a lot to me and other people would be an ambition of mine for the future. I don’t want to leave this world without making some kind of impact on it.

Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?
I live on a farm about an hour away from my school. It’s great because I am able to get away from all the noise and take a breath. Music is my main getaway when it comes to relaxing. I have the most fun making spontaneous plans with friends and family.
