Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?
My friend, Jasmine Thompson, encouraged me to enter the competition. As a 2019 winner, she was constantly raving about how much of an eye-opening experience her Power Trip to Canberra was. She explained the process to me, and Country to Canberra’s values, and I felt as though I had a connection with them especially empowerment and equality. And from there it took off.
What do you hope to get out of C2C on Screen?
From C2C on Screen I hope to strengthen my leadership qualities and get prepared for the postponed Power Trip through the online sessions. I’m excited to meet the other winners and to work with and encourage them along our little journey.
Who is your role model and why?
I am constantly surrounded by people who I aspire to be like, but 3 really stand out. My teachers, Jess Marley and Alysha Weston go out of their way, to ensure all students are understanding the content they are teaching and sets high expectations to help us achieve our bests. Their ‘never give up’ attitude inspires me every day. My mum has always made me feel as though I can achieve whatever I put my mind to, she has been my number 1 supporter and I am grateful every day.
What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
Living in rural Australia has been my biggest blessing. Learning that nothing comes without a cost, and often you have to work hard to achieve. I have learnt so many life skills that are simply harder to learn in urban areas, as you don’t get first-hand experience like we do.
What’s your favourite quote?
“What she tackles she conquers”- Richard Gilmore
What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?
My short-term goal is to excel in my senior studies as I enter grade 11 and to keep excelling through to graduating. My endeavours and goals for the future are constantly changing. So, momentarily, I just wish to keep as many doors open as I can for myself and my future- winning Country to Canberra is yet another opportunity to help me do this.
Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?
I am very involved in my towns sporting community so to relax, I play rugby union, netball softball and swim. I also compete in country music festivals and public speak.
