Bio: Siena Bordignon, NSW Winner 2019

Siena is one of our 2019 Leadership Competition winners. You can check out her winning entry here and her bio below.

How old are you, what grade are you in and what community/town do you live in?
I am eighteen years old and I am in year 12. I live in Coffs Harbour, NSW.

Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?
I wanted to connect with the inspiring women outside of my regional community. I anticipate it will be a formative experience in the refinement and maturation of my own voice.

What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip to Canberra?
I hope to find a space where my personal and professional ambitions are supported, and that I can return that support to new friends. I am also excited to learn from influential women in various stages of their lives and careers.

Who is your role model and why?
I listened to Doctor Angela Jay’s inspiring keynote speech at the 2019 Coffs Harbour International Women’s Day Breakfast. After surviving a horrifying domestic violence attack, she transformed her traumatic experience into a source of resilience and inspiration for herself and her community.

What is your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
While I appreciate the importance of the connectivity of city life, I always feel at home in the quiet solitude that nature offers in rural and regional Australia.

What is your favourite quote?

“I dwell in possibility.” Emily Dickinson

What is your main goal/ambition right now?
I’ve accepted a formal offer to study a Bachelor of Security Studies at Macquarie University, so my focus is to develop my understanding of this complex field. I strive to play an important role in maintaining Australia’s national security, strategically and diplomatically. I would also like to assist organisations with the management and response to disasters and humanitarian crises.

Tell us a couple of things you do to relax/have fun?
I enjoy yoga, meditation and bushwalking as well as a healthy dose of books and podcasts!
