Why did you enter Country to Canberra's Leadership Competition?
Two of my central values are social empowerment and personal growth, and the Country to Canberra seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore both of those concepts. I think the program would help me develop a strong personal skillset, as well as helping me discover ways in I can effectively give back to my community and advocate for social change.
What do you hope to get out of C2C on Screen?
I would love to meet the rest of the country to Canberra winners and build a safe and encouraging virtual space where we can explore our identities and grow as people together. I am also excited to contribute to discussions and share my voice, as well as listen and learn from other people’s amazing ideas.
Who is your role model and why?
I have been blessed with so many inspirational people in my life, and I have learnt numerous valuable lessons from them, but if I had to pin it down, my role model would be my little sister. Even though she’s nine years my junior, she is a confident, kind and vibrant young lady, who marches to the beat of her own drum. Over the years, she’s definitely taught me a thing or two about being bold and brave.
What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?
I love the close-knit inviting community of our regional town. Just a small round of Saturday shopping and you’re bound to meet a few familiar faces, which always brightens my day. It so easy to find your place and community in a small homely area, and you never feel like you don’t belong.
What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?
My main goal for the rest of the year is caring for my mental health to avoid burnout amidst the ever-increasing stresses of year 12, as well as enjoying the last few weeks of school with my friends. I am excited for next year as it will be a brand-new chapter of my life. Post-school, I hope to head off to university to study law. But I also want to explore the world, surround myself with friends and loved ones, involve myself in volunteer work at non-profit organisations, and build a balanced and exciting life.
Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?
Art, especially drawing has always been an outlet for me. I find that it’s a great way to relax and let off some steam while also exploring your creativity. I also love keeping active and I enjoy being amidst nature.
