When I found out that I was one of Country to Canberra’s 2020 winners I was in a state of pure disbelief. I was shocked that I was on the receiving end of a call because I had been selected to represent my state and that I now had the opportunity to meet many different people of varying influence.

Since experiencing Country to Canberra On Screen I have only become more excited about the Power Trip not only to participate in more workshops but to see everyone face to face, rather than through a screen! I really valued the workshops we did do over Zoom. They were all very engaging and I took a lot from them. It was great knowing that I was in a space where I could share my own opinions on topics like the attributes of a good leader, though I also enjoyed just listening and taking in different people’s perspectives. Out of the workshops my favourite would have to have been the mentorship workshop with Sophia, Yasmin and Maddi. One thing that Yasmin said regarding public speaking which resonated with me was to ‘talk passionately’ I am not the most confident public speaker and I feel if I was to apply this whilst public speaking I would feel a lot more comfortable.

I am extremely proud to be part of such a unique program which is specifically catered for young rural women like myself especially when so much these days is city centric. It has also made me further consider what my future may hold with things I want to achieve and the type of leader I want to be.
