Jessica John - Winner 2025

Jessica John | 16 Years | East Kimberley College | Kununurra, Western Australia

Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?

For the past 6 months I have been working on a project as a part of the future female leaders program. One of the members of the FFL program reached out to me and said I would be a good fit. I applied to continue my progress on my passion project and meet people who could give me valuable insights.

What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip?

I hope to gain valuable connections with people who have done similar projects to mine and make my passion project become a reality.

Who is your role model and why?

My role model, although fictional, is Batman.  Despite the constant pain, loss and the weight of both Wayne Enterprises and Gotham on his shoulders, he continues to fight. His strength isn’t just physical, it’s the discipline, resilience, and belief that even in the darkest night, there’s a reason to keep fighting.

What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?

My favourite thing about living in rural Australia is the easy access to nature. I love going hiking with my friends. The unique landscape of rural Australia, especially the Kimberly is something to be envious of and being able to experience it first hand is truly a blessing.

What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?

My main goal is completing my project. I truly believe that it is something that will benefit the lives of many women and I want to see my app come to life.

Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?

I enjoy a range of hobbies, knitting/crocheting, painting, playing clarinet and guitar. With my favourite pastime being reading, specifically classical and fantasy books.
