Leighla Brown - Winner 2023

Year 10 | 15 Years | Riverton and District High School | Riverton, South Australia

Why did you enter Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition?

I entered Country to Canberra’s Leadership Competition because I have heard the positive impact it had on a previous winner. I was inspired to take this opportunity head on, after I found out about it through my lovely history teacher.

What do you hope to get out of the Power Trip?

I hope to gain more confidence and feel more empowered after partaking in this Power Trip, and bring back new fresh ideas and ways.

Who is your role model and why?

My Dad. Isn’t any way special but sometimes a pain. A pain that always pushes me to be my best, stand up for what’s right, live in every moment, enjoy life and see the blessing no matter how bad something is because it could always be worse. Always be open minded, but strong in beliefs and words.

What’s your favourite thing about living in rural Australia?

The open and freedom of ideas to express oneself. Hearing the wildlife wherever you go, and my personal favourite would be looking up at night and seeing every single star you could imagine.

What’s your main goal or ambition (right now, or in the future)?

To finish high school and see if I could go to university and study law to become a defence attorney and open a law firm, or start a business/company in trades.

Tell us a couple of things you do to relax or have fun?

Listen to music, hang out with my best friend or if I’m being honest annoying my parents always makes me feel better and relaxed. And a good movie on Netflix never hurt anyone.
