Post by the outstanding Freya Cooper, one of our 2019 Leadership Competition winners.
I remember getting the phone call – feeling really excited about the possibility of traveling to Canberra and learning new skills, meeting new people and increasing my leadership potential. My expectations were far exceeded – I have no doubt in saying that this experience changed my life.
We were given public speaking training with TEDxCanberra, as well as training for leadership, resilience, finance and women’s rights issues, to name a few. We met with many influential and inspirational women, each of whom had amazing stories to tell. We even got to meet some pollies up in Parliament House, Larissa Waters, Janet Rice, Tanya Plibersek, Jacqui Lambie – we even got a photo with the PM.
And the best part of all, was making 17 new friends in the beautiful, strong and inspirational young women I shared this experience with. I will remember and continue to be inspired by all the amazing people I met on this journey forever ️
Country to Canberra is a truly unique and amazing opportunity – and the memories, skills and friendships I have made through this opportunity will stay close to my heart and carry me through the rest of my life.
